The Hunt:

At the Clarksville, Ducks Unlimited banquet thursday night Avery pro-staffer, Scott Turpen, asked me if I wanted to chase after some geese in the morning, because he had a guy back out, and I was all for it.  Got to his house at 4:30 the next morning, and with school starting andfootball cranking up, I needed this hunt, and didn't really care if we killed anything, it was just going to be nice to get outdoors and enjoy myself for a little bit.  When we pulled up to the farm pond and starting unlodading decoys from the trailer, we could hear geese on neighboring ponds waking up.  We set all the decoys out, and brushed the blinds up, and then came the waiting game.  About fifteen minutes after shooting time, one big group of about 100 geese got up and came torwards us, and stayed wide and went to a cut corn field about three hundred yards away.  For about an hour, we watched close to 200 more birds do the exact same thing.  Scott knew they were going to do that but just hoped they would come to our pond afterwards to loaf.  Then we had one group of five get up and come right torwards us like the rest of them had already done, except these geese did what they were suppposed to do.  They glided right on top of our blinds, swung wide, and tried to sit down right in front of us on the pond about fifteen yards away.  When they were just about to hit the water, Scott yells out the most enthuastic "Kill Em" I've ever heard.  We ended up killing all five of the geese, and when the dog came back we had a little suprise, a band.  We waited a little longer and the geese never got out of the field, so we decided to pack it up.  All together it was almost a little vacation for me to alleviate the stress from football and school.  Just what I needed.
