After putting on way too many miles and watching way too many snows vortex over fields that we were not in, myself and Fowl Exposure GM, Jamieson Crast, started to feel like things were coming together for our most recent hunt. We had acquired permission for a field holding about 300 birds and went and set our 11 dozen decoys that night. When we got all set in the next morning, all of the birds took off the swamp behind us at once and headed straight for us. They got about 150 yards out in front of us and started dumping in without even thinking twice, every pass about 10-15 birds would touch down, some within 2 feet of Jay and I. It was absolutely awesome to be seeing snows this close. Finally, with about 50 birds in front of us at about 15 yards, I called it. Jay dropped one, then I did, as I went to pull the trigger again, my gun jammed. So after having about 150 birds circling us, we ended up with two, but witnessing snows so oblivious to our hide and dumping in like that was more than worth all the effort. | |
