This year was a great year for bling for me. I shot 3 bands this year in a matter of 3 weeks and all 3 were duck bands.

With the early season we only really get to shoot teal and woodies but when they have bling it makes it twice as fun!! The day after opening morning me and my dad went out after school and work to try and get a quick limit. The night before we shot 9 birds..6 teal and 3 woodies so this afternoon we expected to get into the same action. With an expected quick start we downed 6 teal and 1 woodie with light running in short supply. The night before 15 min before final shooting times we had 200 wooducks wanting to land right on top of us and this afternoon would be much of the same. As soon as 15 min of shooting light came we began to see the first waves of the wooducks and man did they put on a show!! Me and my dad couldn't keep are guns loaded and ducks kept falling! With a couple birds left to fill are limit a pair of wooducks zoomed in and I focused and put my beed on them. BAM!! BAM!!! BAM!!! 3 shots and 2 dead ducks as they skipped on the water to there final resting place. My dad went to pick up one and I went to pick up the other and when I reached the drake woodie I yelled BLING!!! I watched my dad pick up the other woodie and I caught a glimpse of some more bling!! We ended the night one short of a limit of 12 but it was probably one of the most fun 3 hours of ducks hunting I have ever experienced.

2 weeks later and the thought of bling still fresh in my mind me and my friend and his buddy went out on another quick shoot after school. With alot of teal still around we set up on a point on a marsh that we have been hunting for the past week with limits everytime. This night started off just as fast as we had groups of 20-30 teal working with 15-20 winds so they were CRUSING!!! With the teal moving so fast and soo many of them we had a hard time hitting them but man was it fun!! After the teal we had a couple groups of mallards that moved in from a canadian clipper early that week. The mallards didn't work very well with the wind and we ended up never getting any shots untill one made a wrong move. With teal out front one mallard snook around the back of us and was about 45 yards when my friend called the shot because off the teal. With my focus on the mallard and theres on the teal I swung around and poped 2 shots into the mallard before it dive bombed into the marsh. With a couple birds down I walked over a picked up the nicest drake mallard I think I have ever seen and it was banded!! My friends were in shock that I killed another band and I could hardly belive it myself! We ended up smashing the teal that day and the rest of the week when it ended when a big storm moved through. Then it was time fore the mallards!!

The drake mallard was banded in saskatchewan on 8/8/1996!! A 12 year old MALLARD!! Yes it is going on the wall!

The 2 woodies were banded on a couple miles from were I shot them this year.

Picture from my phone soo it's not the best.

Nice job Cody, I think I'd be satisfied to shoot 3 bands in my life.

Good work!

Haha Taylor. I have been hunting 4 times when someone besides me shot the band. Talk about unlucky.

Haha Yea taylor it was pure luck that I got 1 of those bands! When we have early season goose hunting you should come up. Last year we shot 4 bands opening morning but I didn't get any of those.

Ohhh man!! I forgot you guys have an early goose season!!! We had one 2 seasons ago and I thought it was a great idea but, they took away after that first year. I would love to get in on some bands. Only been on one hunt where a buddy next to me shot a banded drake mallard. I think I'm due..lol.
