I have a few pieces of land that could be made into some pretty decent habitat? I've heard that DU or Delta will do projects like this for free? I'm not sure of the details, anyone know?

Andrew,

In short, yes DU and groups like the Nature Conservancy do this (Delta is more research based and typically, to my knowledge, does not allocate direct restoration funds). However, how they pursue potential projects like this is highly variable. If deemed viable, they will, as you mentioned, simply do it by grant from their endowment funds on a regional priority basis. My suggestion would be to contact your local chapter presidents and ask them about the prospect of doing something like this. Because the answer is so situational, their response will be considerably more helpful than my own.

Check out this link:

Also, here in Minnesota, state entities sometimes will get involved in restoration projects.

There is no cost to the landowner. In addition to speaking with groups like DU and the Nature Conservancy, I would highly recommend talking to someone at the NYDEC to see if there are any funds available to pursue a project like this.

I hope that helps a little.

Thanks Charlie,

I'll be at a DU banquet Friday night, I'm sure there will be someone that can help me there.
